Today was Durham’s 132nd annual Miners’ Gala which is Durham’s biggest event of the year. We headed into town where everything was happening and planned to stay there most of the day. There were parades going on from 8:30am to around 2:00pm. We arrived into town to watch the parades at 10:00am and only watched the parades for about an hour. Just down the road in a big open field, there were games, rides, and food. It was pretty much just like the NC State Fair. We walked over to the field where a lot of things were going on and listened to a man speak about his coal mining days, listened to bands play, then Alex and Heidi stayed to listen to Jeremy Corbyn speak who is the labor party leader in parliament, while my mom, Christopher, and I walked down the road to a cafe. It was rainy and cool, so a cafe was the perfect place to be. And we got to sit upstairs and watch the rest of the parades from the window. Around 2:30pm, we took a walk around the town and listened to more brass bands and bagpipes play. At 5:00pm, we left town and headed to Alex’s house because he wanted to make us all a curry. After dinner, we went back to our B&B. Now, we are watching TV in our room and packing up to go to Norfolk in the morning 🙂
Arrived to the parade.
