I Stand With Women’s Rights

Please know that in this post I am not criticizing your beliefs or viewpoints. I am just expressing mine.  I was debating whether or not I should write a post about this topic since it is such a hot topic and I am not one for getting too political, but my thoughts need to be shared somewhere. I cannot hold them in any longer. You probably already know what I am about to talk about, but if not, it’s the abortion law that was just put into place in Alabama.

I personally have never been a fan of abortion, BUT that does not give me the right to judge women or think what they are choosing to do is any of my business. Just because someone has an abortion DOES NOT make them a murderer. There are so many reasons why a woman would choose the abortion option, such as rape, where they’re at in their life, finances,…etc., but whatever it is, it is not the governments right to tell any woman what to do with her own body. Roe v. Wade law was put into place for a reason in 1973, which states that a woman has the right to do what is needed with her body, so why is America going backwards?

Something that I have been hearing and seeing on social media a lot is that if God gives a woman a baby she should give birth to it. Another thing I’ve been seeing is “if you are a real Christian and worship God, he wouldn’t allow rape to happen.” Since when were Christians and real Christians different? Last time I checked, a Christian is a Christian no matter what.

We don’t have to prove how much we love God like it’s a competition and whoever wins gets the “real Christian” award. I personally don’t think that Christians get watched over by God or loved by God more than any other person. If you’re non-religious then God still loves you. But that’s all of the God talk because religion needs to stay out of politics, which is why we have the separation of church and state law.

For some reason people think that if abortion is illegal then it will stop abortions from happening. If women are wanting or needing an abortion, they will find a way to get one no matter what, so why not make it safe by having access to get an abortion? By making abortion legal, people aren’t going to go around having more abortions. They are doing what is right for them in a safe way and have doctors help them through that process.

If people don’t believe in abortion, then don’t get one. But people have absolutely no right to tell women what to do. I think it is absolutely ridiculous that doctors who perform abortions can get sent to prison for 99 years. Um what?! Sometimes performing an abortion would be better than bringing that life into the world in certain situations, so it is terrifying to think that doctors who are trying to do the right thing would go to prison just like a rapist would.

Not to bring too many political topics into this, but according to statistics, America has the highest crime rate and mass shootings, which kill more lives in a shorter amount of time than abortions. And those lives are actually already living, have families, and get taken just like that. So why are we not doing anything more with gun control than just saying “my thoughts and prayers are with the school or families of victims”? If abortion can be illegal because every life is precious, then guns should be banned too.

The point is, if a woman is wanting or needing an abortion, then she is more than likely already having a hard time and will find a way to get an abortion. We have no right to get into her business and tell her what she should or shouldn’t do with her body. We should give women the right to do what is right for her and be there for her. We need to leave religion out of politics because religious people who are sharing their beliefs thinking they are doing “God’s work” is actually turning people away from God by saying what God would do or think when we don’t even know that that’s what he would do or think.

If there is anything I would want you to take away from this post, it’s to be open minded, always put yourself in another person’s position, don’t judge, always be there for people because you don’t know what they are going through, and leave religion out of it.

Until next time,

Caitlin xxx
